Hoya myrmecopa 'Yellow' - endemic species from Sulawesi, Indonesia, published in 2001. Relatively small, fragrant flowers, in shades of cream - yellow - orange, which show variability depending on the growing conditions. The leaves are small and shiny.
The flowers have a pleasant fragrance, of medium intensity and appear in groups of approx. 15 per umbrella. Flowering is not dependent on the season, but for the success of flowering it is recommended to grow in a position that gives the plant the strongest, filtered light. It is recommended by collectors as a plant with frequent flowering.
The plant is compact, with controllable dimensions and adapts very easily to any microclimate, with minimal care. Specimens grown in strong light have smaller and thicker, pigmented (colored) leaves, while specimens grown in weaker light have larger, intense green, thinner leaves.
The approximate translation for the name of this species (myrmecopa) would be "ant hole" - in situ, the initially collected specimen was raised in a burrow formed by ants, living in symbiosis with them. The substances produced by the ant nest provided nutrients to the plant. The association with ants could also indicate the fact that this plant would prefer an acidic substrate - formic acid is produced in ant nests, a substance also known for its antibacterial effects.
