Hoya lobbii 'Black' is a cultivar of the species Hoya lobbii, a shrubby Hoya that does not twine around its support on its own. The foliage is dark green and elongated, sometimes with subtle silver markings, while the stems need support to grow upward. Under good growing conditions, the plant produces umbels of waxy, fragrant flowers in dark red shades that can become almost black. The color may also vary toward red-orange, depending on the individual plant and the light. The 'Black' selection is known for producing darker flowers.

Foliage and growth. The foliage is dark green, elongated, fairly firm, and may have silver markings or coloration characteristic of the selection. Unlike many climbing Hoyas, Hoya lobbii grows more like a shrub or a vine that does not twine around its support on its own. It needs support to grow upward. Once established, it grows quite vigorously in cultivation.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers are waxy, with reflexed petals, and are grouped in umbels. In the form sold as 'Black', the corolla is dark red, sometimes almost black, with an even darker corona and a yellow center. The color may vary in red-orange shades. The flowers are fragrant; in horticultural observations, the fragrance is rather subtle and may vary between individual plants.

Botanical identity and origin. Hoya lobbii Hook.f. is an accepted botanical name, published in 1883. Its recognized native range extends from Assam to Indochina, including Thailand. 'Black' is not a separate species and has not been found as a published taxon; it remains a label for plants with darker flowers within this group.

It displays coloration characteristic of the selection on its leaves. The decorative pot is not included in the price. Flower color may vary in red-orange shades.

Potting mix: use an airy, well-draining mix suitable for epiphytic species. We recommend the professional potting mix for Hoya and Anthurium - SG Mix.
