Hoya densifolia - a native species from the Java and Philippine Islands. A compact plant with vigorous, upright growth, shaped like a shrub.
The flowers usually appear at the tips of the vines, in clusters of 10-20. Each flower is about 1.5 cm in size and has a delightful scent with notes of citrus and coconut. The flower stalks fall off after blooming, but this is not disappointing, as the plant grows well and new stalks appear spontaneously and grow quickly throughout the warm season.
The flower color varies from green when opening to lemon-yellow as they mature. The flowers last about a week.
Hoya densifolia is probably one of the hardiest and easiest hoya species to grow. The best growth and flowering results are achieved when the plant is grown in strong filtered light. It also tolerates morning or evening sun very well, when the light intensity is lower.
Hoya densifolia is related to Hoya cummingiana - the two species share many similarities, but taxonomists currently consider them distinct species. Hoya densifolia is generally regarded as less demanding.
Like Hoya cummingiana, Hoya densifolia tolerates drought periods better than excess water.
