Echinocereus knippelianus - compact cactus with pink flowers

Echinocereus knippelianus is a compact and unusual cactus, appreciated for its slightly flattened, dark green, globular body and very sparse spination. Unlike many other Echinocereus species, it may have only a few fine spines or appear almost spineless, giving it a very clean and distinctive appearance.

The species is native to northeastern Mexico, where it grows in mountainous areas on calcareous soils at high altitudes. Kew recognizes Echinocereus knippelianus Liebner as an accepted botanical species.

• Cold tolerance: can tolerate low temperatures if the substrate is completely dry, but for container-grown plants we recommend avoiding prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures
