Chamaecereus is characterized by its small, cylindrical, and dense stems that grow in clusters. The stems are light green and can reach a length of about 10-15 cm, often forming a dense mat. The main attraction of this cactus is its cerise (bright pink) flowers, which are quite large relative to the size of the plant and appear in spring or early summer. The flowers add a beautiful contrast against the green stems and can last several days.

Care:

  1. Light: Chamaecereus prefers direct sunlight but should be protected from the scorching midday sun in very hot climates. Sunlight is essential for flowering.

  2. Watering: As with most cacti, watering should be moderate. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering during winter.

  3. Soil: Use a well-draining soil mix specially designed for cacti. A poor soil with good drainage is ideal to prevent excessive water retention that can lead to root rot.

  4. Temperature: Chamaecereus is resistant to low temperatures but should be protected from frost. If you live in an area where temperatures drop below zero, it is ideal to move the plant indoors or to a protected space during winter.

  5. Fertilization: Fertilize lightly during the active growth period (spring and summer) using a special fertilizer for cacti, diluted to half the recommended strength.
