Radermachera sinica (China Doll plant)
Radermachera sinica, commonly known as the China Doll plant, is an elegant indoor plant with the appearance of a small, refined tree. It has glossy, dark green, compound (pinnate) leaves that give it a sophisticated tropical look.
The plant develops a lush, branched crown and can reach 1.5–2 m in height in a pot under good conditions. Flowering (white, tubular, and fragrant flowers) is possible but rare in indoor plants.
Main features:
- Glossy, dark green, pinnate leaves
- Elegant small tree form
- Fast and vigorous growth
- Size: 1–2 m tall (in pot at maturity)
- Air-purifying plant
Easy care:
- Light: bright indirect light or filtered morning sun (avoid strong direct midday sun)
- Temperature: 18–28°C. Sensitive to cold drafts and sudden temperature changes
- Watering: moderate – allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings. Sensitive to overwatering
- Humidity: medium
- Pruning: can be pruned in spring to maintain a compact shape and encourage branching
Recommended substrate: For healthy growth and to prevent root rot, a rich and well-draining substrate is recommended. → Premium universal flower soil (Netherlands) - Secret Garden
Uses: Excellent as a statement plant in living rooms, offices, hallways, or spaces with good light. Due to its small, elegant tree appearance, it is very suitable for modern or classic interiors.
Note: Radermachera sinica is sensitive to environmental changes. If leaves drop after moving or changing growing conditions, this is normal. With consistent light and watering, the plant recovers quickly and produces beautiful new leaves.
An elegant plant with a tropical small tree look, ideal for those who want a visually striking indoor plant that is relatively easy to maintain.
