Fenestraria rhopalophylla, commonly known as „Baby Toes” or “baby’s fingers,” is a fascinating miniature succulent native to the desert regions of Namibia and South Africa. It is easily recognized by its cylindrical, fleshy leaves with translucent tips, which allow light to reach the inner tissues – an amazing adaptation to the intense desert sun.

Leaves: thick, cylindrical, closely arranged like a fan; the transparent tips act as “light windows” for photosynthesis

Flowers: large, daisy-like, white or yellow, appearing in spring or autumn

☀️ Growing conditions:

Light: plenty of direct light or gentle sun; indoors, best near a south-facing window

Soil: very well drained, specific for cacti and succulents, with added coarse sand or perlite

Watering: infrequent – only when the soil is completely dry; in the cold season, watering is reduced to a minimum

Temperature: ideal between 18–26°C; avoid cold below 10°C

Fertilizing: occasional, during the growing season, with diluted fertilizer for succulents
