Hoya imperialis

Hoya imperialis is a vigorous vine from Southeast Asia, known for producing some of the largest flowers in the genus. Its foliage consists of thick, rigid and glossy leaves, with a prominent central vein and sometimes slightly wavy margins. The star-shaped flowers, approximately 7–9 cm across, appear in umbels and combine shades of red or purplish-red with a creamy-white center. The fragrance is pleasant and easier to detect at night or in the early morning.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are thick, rigid and fleshy, ranging from elongated to elliptical in shape, with a glossy surface. The vines become robust as they mature and can support large inflorescences.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers have a star-shaped corolla approximately 7–9 cm in diameter, in shades of dark red or purplish-red, with a creamy-white center. An inflorescence can contain up to 19 flowers and may remain open for two to three weeks. Horticultural sources describe a fresh fragrance, perceived mainly at night and in the early morning.

Botanical identity and origin. Hoya imperialis Lindl. is an accepted botanical name, published in 1846. The species is native from the Thai Peninsula to western and central Malesia and grows as an epiphyte in a humid tropical biome.

The decorative pot is not included in the price. The leaves may have blemishes or characteristic coloration. The height, including the pot, is over 50 cm.
