The leaves are semi-evergreen, meaning some of them remain on the plant throughout the winter, depending on the climatic conditions. In cases of severe winters, the plant may lose all its leaves.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFlowering generally begins in November or December and can continue until February or March. The flowers are bell-shaped and arranged singly. They have a pale cream background, over which dark purple or dark brown spots are scattered, resembling freckles – hence the name 'Freckles'. \u003cstrong\u003eThe flowers are fragrant\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo encourage proper\/abundant winter flowering as well as foliage retention, it is recommended to place the plant in areas sheltered from blizzards and strong drafts.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFull botanical name: Clematis cirrhosa var. purpurascens 'Freckles'\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNote – under certain conditions, Clematis cirrhosa may enter dormancy during the warm season – in which case watering should be reduced.
