Cattleya percivaliana vonná
The Cattleya percivaliana orchid, also known as the "Christmas orchid" because it blooms at that time of year, is one of the best Cattleya species to grow, being very hardy and adaptable. Its flowers have a citrus and spicy scent, one of the most memorable orchid fragrances.
A fascinating and historically rich species, C. percivaliana originates from Venezuela and comes in a wide range of colors (mainly different shades of lavender). The most beautiful and colorful part of this orchid is the lip/labellum, memorably described as "a Persian carpet in which brilliant colors predominate" (by Reichenbach, the great orchid botanist). Surely, there is no better way to describe an orchid! As one of the smaller Cattleya species, it grows compactly (great for windowsills), and you can have a plant that produces many flowers in a 10 cm pot.
Flowers naturally show color variations.
