Calathea concinna ‘Freddie’

Calathea ‘Freddie’ (officially Calathea concinna ‘Freddie’) is a tropical houseplant from the Marantaceae family, valued for its long, narrow leaves with a decorative pattern of light and dark green stripes. 🔹 Botanical features:

• Shape: A plant with upright and compact growth, generally reaching 30–40 cm in height, suitable for medium pots and bright corners.

• Leaves: Long, lance-shaped, colored light green with zigzag or wavy dark green stripes. The surface is glossy, and the underside of the leaf is slightly pinkish or purplish, depending on the light.

• Movement: Being part of the “prayer plants” family, the leaves move according to the light, gently rising at night and opening during the day.

🔹 Recommended growing conditions:

• Light: Prefers diffused indirect light. Direct sunlight can burn the leaves. It also adapts to semi-shaded spaces.

• Watering: Regular but moderate. The soil should be kept slightly moist, without becoming soaked. Water only when the top 2–3 cm of the substrate are dry.

• Soil: Light and well-drained – a mix based on peat, leaf mold, and perlite.

• Humidity: High air moisture is essential. The plant appreciates frequent misting, a humidifier, or placement near other plants.

• Temperature: Thrives in warm environments, protected from cold drafts or sudden changes.

• Fertilizing: Apply a liquid fertilizer for decorative plants through the leaves once every 3–4 weeks during the growing season.

• Care: Moderate. Requires attention to watering and humidity. Leaves can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth to prevent dust buildup.

• Propagation: By dividing the clump, usually in spring.
