Angraecum sesquipedale - also known as Darwin's Orchid, Christmas Orchid, Star of Bethlehem Orchid, or King of the angraecums. A native species from Madagascar, with large white flowers, renowned for their fragrance and long lifespan.
Discovered in , this species became famous through Charles Darwin's prediction, who argued that if such a plant existed, there must also be (or will be) a pollinator capable of reaching the tip of the flower's spur to achieve pollination. His prediction was confirmed about 100 years later, when the moth with a long tongue, Xanthopan morganii praedicta, was discovered.
