Hoya paulshirleyi is an accepted species, published in 2010, native to Sulawesi. It is not a generic label for Southeast Asia. The foliage is elliptical or ovate, green, with lighter veins; in bright light, it may develop pink tones. The flowers are small and pink, with a darker corona, and are fragrant. A flower’s duration on the plant is short. Blooming depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are elliptical to ovate, firm, with visible veins, sometimes described as having a tortoiseshell pattern. The background is green; the shoots and leaf blades may develop pink or reddish tones in bright light. It has a vigorous, vining growth habit. There is no splash and no variegation on this lot.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers are small, star-shaped, and grouped in umbels. The corolla is pink, with a darker corona, sometimes described as dark pink. They are fragrant; the scent is sweet and may be perceptible only during the first few hours after opening. They last on the plant for one or two days, not as a guaranteed long-lasting bloom. The peduncles remain after flowering and may produce new generations of buds. Buds, peduncles, and flowers may be damaged or lost during shipping. Blooming depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Identity. The accepted botanical name is Hoya paulshirleyi T.Green & Kloppenb., validated in 2010. The species is native to Sulawesi. It was collected by Paul Shirley in 1994 and circulated as GPS 8845 or IPPS 8845; these are collection numbers, not synonyms. The commercial title preserves the fragrance line.

The ceramic pot is not included in the price. Plants in stock may also have leaves with defects.
