Foliage and growth. The leaves are rhomboid-elliptical, thick, and have robust petioles, a characteristic that gave the species its name. The lateral veins are visible on the upper surface. In good light, the green foliage becomes more contrasting. This batch is not the selection sold as Splash or Splash Round. It has a vining growth habit, with long internodes.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers are small and white, sometimes with greenish or pale pink tones, grouped in umbels. Horticultural sources describe them as subtly fragrant; their color and intensity may vary depending on growing conditions. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Identity. The accepted botanical name is Hoya crassipetiolata Aver., V.T.Pham & T.A.Le, published in 2017. The species is native to Vietnam. Hoya hainanensis is a separate accepted species. The labels Da Nang or DaNang Vietnam indicate the origin of the horticultural material, not a different botanical name.
