Hoya coronaria 'White' (huge white fragrant flowers) - developed specimens

Hoya coronaria 'White' is a selection of the accepted species Hoya coronaria, a vigorous vine from southern Thailand and western and central Malesia, with thick, slightly pubescent, elliptic foliage. The White label refers to the cream-white, star-shaped flowers with a cream corona; it is not a separate taxon. In cultivation, it grows considerably before its first flowering, and the vines branch. The flowers are especially fragrant at night.

Foliage and growth. The foliage is elliptic and thick, with slightly reflexed margins and a pubescent underside. The vine is vigorous and branches readily.

Flowers and fragrance. In this batch, the flowers are waxy, star-shaped, and cream-white, with a cream corona and a purplish-brown center. Some petals have fine burgundy spots. At the species level, the color varies from cream-white and yellow to pink or red, sometimes with spots. The flowers are especially fragrant at night; intensity may vary. In cultivation, flowering usually occurs after the vine has grown sufficiently. Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.

Botanical identity and origin. The accepted name is Hoya coronaria Blume, published in 1826–1827. In horticulture, it is placed in section Eriostemma; Eriostemma coronarium is a synonym, not a separate genus on this listing. 'White' remains a label referring to the flower color.
