Full description and specifications

Gymnocalycium quehlianum is a small cactus, originally from Argentina, which is part of the Cactaceae family. It is known for its spherical or slightly elongated shape, with well-defined peaks and white areoles from which thin, straight or slightly curved thorns grow. The color of the thorns can vary from white to pale yellow or even pink.

Its flowers are quite large in relation to the size of the body, generally appearing at the top. They can be white, pink or even light red, often with a darker center. Gymnocalycium quehlianum generally blooms in the summer months.

The care of this plant includes several essential aspects:

  1. Light : Gymnocalycium quehlianum prefers strong but filtered light to avoid sunburn. A bright place, but protected from direct sunlight, is ideal.
  2. Watering : It is important to maintain a moderate watering schedule. Watering must be regular during the warm periods of the year, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. During the winter, watering must be considerably reduced to simulate dormant conditions.
  3. Temperature : This plant is resistant to moderate temperatures, but does not tolerate frost. If the temperatures drop below 10 degrees Celsius, it is recommended that it be brought inside or in a protected place.
  4. Soil : A well-draining mix specific for cacti.
  5. Fertilization : Fertilization is not necessary very often, but the application of a weakly diluted fertilizer, especially for cacti, can be beneficial during the period of active growth.
