Sansevieria ‘Masoniana’, also popularly known as “Whale Fin”, is an impressive succulent from the Asparagaceae family, native to Central Africa (Democratic Republic of the Congo). Its name comes from the shape of its large, broad, upright leaf, which resembles a whale’s dorsal fin.

🔹 Botanical characteristics:

• Growth habit: A medium- to large-sized herbaceous plant with slow growth and an upright structure. It usually has a single large leaf, but over time it can produce more leaves or side shoots from the rhizome.

• Leaves: Very wide (up to 25–30 cm) and long (up to 1 meter), with a slightly rounded or pointed tip. The color is dark green, with irregular spots or streaks in lighter green. The leaf edges are smooth, and the surface is waxy, firm, and glossy.

• Roots: A fleshy, underground rhizome from which the plant can produce new shoots. The roots are thick and well adapted to retaining water.

• Flowers: Rarely appear in indoor cultivation. When it blooms, it produces a vertical inflorescence with small, fragrant, whitish-green flowers, similar to those of other Sansevieria plants.

🔹 Recommended growing conditions:

• Light: Prefers bright, indirect light, but also tolerates partial shade. It adapts well to indoor conditions, including artificial light. In intense natural light, the leaf retains its visible pattern and grows more harmoniously.

• Watering: Infrequently and moderately. Allow the substrate to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering even further during the cold season. It is very drought-resistant but sensitive to excess water.

• Soil: Well-draining substrate recommended for cacti and succulents. Perlite or sand can be added to prevent waterlogging.

• Humidity: Tolerates dry air and does not require high humidity. Misting is not necessary.

• Fertilizing: Apply small doses of fertilizer for succulents infrequently (once a month during the active spring-summer period).

📌 Note: Sansevieria masoniana has large, thick, rigid leaves, and the leaf tip is naturally more prone to mechanical damage. Specimens may have slightly dry, blunt, bent, scarred, or slightly torn tips as a result of growth, handling, or transport.

These imperfections are mainly cosmetic and do not normally affect the plant's viability or subsequent growth. The appearance of the tip may vary from leaf to leaf and from one specimen to another.

Height including pot: approx. 45 cm
