Sulcorebutia rauschii ‘Violacidermis’ is a spectacular and rare variety of globular cactus, native to Bolivia, known for its intense purple-violet color of the skin and the orderly arrangement of tubercles and fine spines. It is a highly prized collector’s plant among enthusiasts of miniature cacti, due to its compact appearance and abundant flowering.

🔹 Botanical characteristics:

Form: A small-sized cactus, with a globular or flattened body, which over time forms compact clusters of heads (offsets). Each globe can vary in diameter between 3–5 cm.

Skin: Colored in rare shades of violet, purple or dark mauve, especially when the plant is exposed to strong light. The color becomes more intense under controlled stress conditions (sun, drought).

Tubercles: Arranged in regular geometric spirals, each with small areoles and very fine, short spines of a grayish-white or yellowish color. The plant has a “sculptural” look.

Flowers: Large in relation to the size of the plant, pink-magenta or deep violet, cup-shaped, usually appearing in spring–summer at the base of the main head.

🔹 Recommended growing conditions:

Light: Prefers direct sun or strong filtered light. Without intense light, it loses some of its vivid coloration.

Soil: Very well drained – a mineral mix for cacti, with fine gravel, sand, and a little peat.

Watering: Water rarely, only when the substrate is completely dry. During the cold period (autumn–winter), the plant goes dormant and watering is stopped.

Temperature: In the active season it prefers warmth, but tolerates low temperatures down to 0°C if completely dry. In winter, it is recommended to keep it at 5–10°C to encourage flowering.

Humidity: Low. Prefers an airy and dry environment.

Propagation: Can be propagated by separating offsets or by seeds (less common).

Care: Minimal. Requires only sun, excellent drainage, and a watering break in the cold season. Height with pot included approx. 10 cm
