This group of Paphiopedilum exists only in cultivation, resulting from selective crossbreeding of botanical species and their hybrids. The known parent species for the American Hybrid group are Paphiopedilum insignie, P. gratrixianum, P. villosum, P. spicerianum, P. barbigerum, P. coccineum.
