Hoya sammannaniana (EPC 883)

Hoya sammannaniana is an accepted species from Borneo, published in 2014. It is a rainforest vine observed in the canopy of mixed dipterocarp forests, from lowland areas to hills, below 400 m. The foliage grows in pairs, and peduncles emerge at the nodes. The flowers are bell-shaped, deep, and relatively large for a Hoya, with a bright yellow corona. In cultivation, it flowers readily once established, making it an interesting choice for collectors.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers are deep, bell-shaped, with a bright yellow corona. Cultivation observations indicate 1–3 flowers per peduncle, relatively large in size: over 2.5 cm long and almost 2 cm in diameter. In cultivation, an open flower usually lasts one to two days. Botanical identity and origin. Hoya sammannaniana A.Lamb, Gavrus, Emoi & Gokusing was published in 2014 in Sandakania 19: 68. The species is accepted. Its native range is Borneo (Sabah and Kalimantan). The name commemorates Datuk Sam Mannan.
