Hoya hanhiae 'Pink Yellow' - developed specimens

Hoya hanhiae 'Pink Yellow' is the selection with creamy-yellow flowers and a pink corona of the accepted species Hoya hanhiae, native to Vietnam. The foliage is ovate, thick, glossy, with visible veins. The star-shaped flowers appear in semi-spherical umbels, are fragrant, and last only a few days. Pink Yellow is not a separate taxon; the label describes the commercial flower color, distinguishing it from the other color forms of the species.

Foliage and growth. The foliage is ovate or broadly ovate, thick, glossy, with 3–5 veins emerging from the base. Mature leaves can reach 6–17 cm in length. It is an epiphytic vine: train it on a support or allow it to trail. Pink Yellow retains the species’ foliage; the label refers to the flower color, not variegation. In the lot photographs, the shoot is short, with green leaves and no splash. The decorative pot is not included in the price.

Flowers and fragrance. In the species, the umbels are semi-spherical, with dozens of flowers approximately 1 cm across, ranging from pale yellow to pink-purple. The Pink Yellow selection is sold for its creamy-yellow or peach corolla and pink corona. In this lot, the flowers form a dense, waxy umbel with this contrast. The flowers are fragrant and usually last 3–4 days. The shade may vary slightly depending on growing conditions. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and cultivation conditions.

Identity. Hoya hanhiae V.T.Pham & Aver. is an accepted botanical name, published in 2014. The species is native to Vietnam and was described from material collected in coastal areas of Quang Tri and Khanh Hoa, in lowland forests on sandy soils. The authors compare it with Hoya macrophylla and Hoya verticillata; it remains a distinct species. Pink Yellow is a color label.

The substrate should dry out between waterings, but mixes that dry out too quickly are not suitable.
