Catasetum expansum 'Étoile Jaune'

Catasetum expansum - a large, striking epiphytic botanical species that grows in varying temperature conditions, from warm to cool, native to northeastern Ecuador, in dry forests at altitudes from 20 to 1500 meters. This plant has spindle-shaped pseudobulbs bearing several lance-shaped, folded, and deciduous leaves. It can bloom from May to December on a curved basal flower stalk, 30 cm long, with 6 or more flowers, which appears on a newly formed pseudobulb and can carry either male or female flowers. The flowers have a distinct scent, with different aromas during the day and night.
