The term Tillandsia Air Plants actually refers to over 500 varieties of epiphytic Tillandsia that can survive without substrate. These plants have the ability to absorb the necessary nutrients through their leaves, using the superficial roots only for attachment.
Air plants, also called tillandsia airplant or epiphytic plants, are easy to care for, provided you follow a few simple instructions:
- Placement - to enjoy active growth and flowers, it is good to place them in a well-lit space but with filtered light. Sun exposure can cause burns and rapid deterioration of the plants. Avoid placing plants near a heat source (radiator) in the cold season or a cold source (air conditioning) in the warm season.
- Watering - do not pour water over them! The best watering method is to run the plant under a stream of lukewarm water once a week. Let the water drain, and when it is completely dry, put the plant back in its place.
- Spraying - regularly spray the plant, preferably with the nourishing spray for tillandsia air plant. On hot days, spray 1-2 times a week, and on cold days once every 1-2 weeks.
- Maintenance - as the plant grows, the leaves at the base may dry out - this is normal. Dry leaves can be removed - if they do not come off easily, wait a few days and try again.
